Delicious homemade spaetzle dumplings, perfect for pairing with stews or as a side dish.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, salt, and nutmeg.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk.
  3. Gradually add the egg mixture to the flour mixture, stirring until a smooth batter forms.
  4. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  5. Using a spaetzle maker or a colander, drop the batter into the boiling water.
  6. Cook until the dumplings float to the surface, about 3-5 minutes.
  7. Remove with a slotted spoon and rinse under cold water.
  8. In a skillet, melt the butter and sauté the spaetzle until golden brown.

Notes

  • Serve spaetzle with your favorite sauce or gravies.
  • Can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for a few days.
