Mini Donauwellen Plätzchen are delightful German cookies featuring a rich layer of chocolate and a fruity cherry filling.

Ingredients

  • 300 grams all-purpose flour
  • 200 grams butter
  • 150 grams sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 200 grams dark chocolate
  • 1 jar cherry jam
  • 100 grams powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine the flour and baking powder, then gradually add to the creamed mixture.
  6. Divide the dough into two parts, adding melted chocolate to one half.
  7. Spread the chocolate dough in a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  8. Spoon dollops of the plain dough on top of the chocolate layer, and swirl gently.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes.
  10. Allow to cool, then spread a layer of cherry jam on top.
  11. Mix powdered sugar with water to create a glaze and drizzle over the top.

  • For best results, ensure all ingredients are at room temperature.
  • These cookies can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week.
  • You can substitute cherry jam with any fruit jam of your choice.
